As a practicing certified registered nurse anesthesthetist, I know firsthand the necessity of quality healthcare carried out by caring and competent professionals at a reasonable cost to everyone.

In my experience, the incredible increase in frivolous lawsuits has directly led to increased healthcare costs. In too many cases this has put affordable healthcare out of reach for working families. The existing barrier to competition currently forced on insurers has only made this problem even worse. We simply cannot go forward at the current pace and expect to continue the quality of care we have come to expect and deserve.

I will work hard for tort reform in order to give competent healthcare providers a chance to practice without fear of litigation while still providing proper and appropriate legal protection in a responsible manner. I will ensure that quality standards are maintained in the licensing and continuing education of our medical personnel throughout the state, and our nation.

I will also call for an honest assessment of our healthcare costs through insurance companies that continue to offer less and less and take more and more in order to report healthy gains to stockholders.

I truly believe the United States has the best healthcare in the world. Our innovation and pioneering efforts in developing drugs and immunizations against the most deadly illnesses and diseases known to mankind has never ceased. Our nation has also been a world leader in medical technology, and that technology does save lives. Rather than reflect on our problems, I will be a true leader to continue and improve our legacy of excellence. I will work for ways to solve complex issues which require careful analysis and dialogue with major parties that includes healthcare executives, legislators, professional associations, pharmaceutical companies, and state licensing and credentialing entities. We must produce solutions that are viable, and provide the best use of our resources over the long term. I will fight for solutions that will not only work, but will also stand the test of time for future generations.
