Meet Lee Bias

Congressional Candidate Lee Bias is running for the 3rd Congressional District of West Virginia for the House of Representatives. He officially filed for his candidacy on June 12, 2009, made his public Campaign Announcement on July 1, 2009, and is working hard to commit to a fair and noble candidacy.

He was born August 31, 1966 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Huntington, WV. He was raised by his mother Sara “Sally” Bias and his father Levi Bias. His mother worked for the Cabell County Board of Education and eventually retired from Cabell Midland High School, while his father, Levi, retired from the Huntington District of the US Army Corps of Engineers after more than thirty years of service. Lee grew up knowing strong family and community values, and he was raised with a strong work ethic.

Lee graduated from Barboursville High School in 1984. That same year he also earned his Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts of America while in Troop 63, in Melissa, WV. He went on to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida to study Aeronautical Engineering. During his time at Embry-Riddle he participated as a cadet in the US Air Force ROTC program with the USAF ROTC Detachment 157. After attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for a couple of years, he realized that his true calling was in health care. Health care, and the access to health care, is an issue that is very important to Congressional Candidate Bias. This is especially true when considering those citizens who live in the many areas within our state that are Underserved Provider areas.

Lee returned home to attend Marshall University in his home state of West Virginia, to study for his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. During this time, he learned more about health care in general and wanted to continue to help people, particularly his fellow West Virginians. After graduating from Marshall in May of 1989, Bias served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, initially for the Green Valley Volunteer Fire Department from 1989 to 1994 and Cabell County EMS from 1990 to 1995. During this time, he also provided his expertise and served as a volunteer member of the Marshall University Emergency Medical Service, and also served as a member of the Cabell County EMS Dive Rescue Team while working for CCEMS.

He graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1992, earning his diploma in nursing and subsequently passed his Board Exam to be licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse. He continued to work many jobs and volunteered many hours toward Green Valley, Cabell County EMS, Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority, Marshall University EMS Service, and other causes.

In 1999, he decided to pursue his Masters Degree in Nurse Anesthesia and Health Care Administration through Charleston Area Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesia and Marshall University College of Graduate Studies, allowing him to fully operate as a Board Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. He has worked tirelessly for many nursing and emergency medical programs in the area. And since 2005, he has worked for Cabell Huntington Hospital as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and has tirelessly pursued healthcare issues that will benefit all of the citizens of this state. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Government Relations Committee and is a past Vice President for the West Virginia Association of Nurse Anesthetists. He is also an elected member of the Resolutions and Bylaws Committee for the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

Lee came from a working class family, and learned the important lessons of strong work ethic and perseverance. He has applied the lessons his family bestowed upon him to improve himself and to serve others in the areas of public safety and healthcare. Now he realizes that our country, and our state, is in need of someone who understands the values of the hard working people of West Virginia, as well as our country. Lee Bias is stepping up to fight for the citizens of the Third US Congressional District of the State of West Virginia. Please join us and support us as we pursue this campaign to win this Congressional Seat back for the hard working people of this district and this Great State.
